::Alice Beret from Knitting Little Luxuries by Louisa Harding::
::Nautical Cotton x 1 skein each (50g 93 yds) of 6 colours::
::Needles Addi Turbo Bamboo Circulars 3.25 & 3.75::
::Gauge 22 sts/28 rows = 4in square::

The yarn was lovely to use. It has a twisted rope-like look which added depth to the tone of each of the slightly muted colours:

The pattern was easy to follow and the sizing was good. This is a fun hat which is very easy and quick to knit.

There are some interesting projects in this book. I am thinking about the light and airy lace scarf next.

Vacation Knitting

denim bag

Well now there is the taxing question of what knitting projects to take on holiday. There is absolutely no point in trying to smuggle knitting onto an aeroplane for a 2 - 3 hour journey. So I am thinking of a small project whilst we are there.

The second thing to think about is where we are going: Italy. So it will be hot, hot, hot. That means I will not want some huge project draped over my lap. I am thinking the free gift that came with my Rowan subscription will be perfect. It is a small denim bag that is easy to knit and will not require very much concentration and will be easily done round the pool or during the car journey.

I am also thinking of a second project because I will get bored with only one. This will be a small drawstring pouch from Joelle Hoverson's Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I am going to knit it in the Rowan Cashsoft DK I recently bought:

Well now that's sorted. Roll on holidays!

Rowan

Rowan #44

The 30th Anniversary edition of the Rowan Magazine #44 has three stories: 'Nostalgia', 'Renaissance' and 'Elegance'. The photography is as sumptuous as usual and there are some very inspiring pieces. As usual there are a variety of techniques and a range of skill levels required.

There are articles about the designers who include Sarah Dallas and Kim Hargreaves whose designs I have knitted and loved. There is a very interesting article about the new yarn Purelife which is all about home grown and produced wool with the emphasis on quality which I am afraid will equate to price but the article does explain why. There will be new ranges of colours exclusively for Kim Hargreaves.

There is also an updated Rowan website which is worth a visit.

So I am more than happy with the new magazine and am looking forward particularly to making most of the Clever Ideas which is biased towards Christmas. I think I will be inspired to start with this knitted and felted swag:

Book Review

I was very pleased when this book arrived recently from Amazon. It is Nordic Felted Knits by Gerd Fjellanger and it is published by Search Press.

There are some very inspired projects here in this book and I am especially delighted that the Christmas ideas are suitable for anyone. I think I'm going to make the angel and probably the mat and container.

I've bought some red Rowan Pure Wool DK which you can see over in my stash on Ravelry.

The bags and hats in this book are beautiful and look easy to make. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to try some felting projects.

Your My First

Welcome to my first post here on my new knitting blog. I decided to have a dedicated place for blogging about my knitting adventures away from my life in general blog. You can find my other blog from the side bar - although I still could not resist using an image of knitting for that.
This morning I've been rumaging around Ravelry and came up with my newly downloaded pdf file of Guided By Love Socks which are so different from the usual sock patterns.
Now I'm going to try and choose some yarn and beads. My thoughts are that I might use a cashmere in a soft sage green. The pattern uses 1 skein of On Your Toes Bamboo in gray. Now that is tempting too but we'll see what else is out there.
As I get used to using blogger I shall hopefully have a list of knitting projects I'm currently working on and finished objects but you can catch up with me over at Ravely as Tarviragus if you like.
Well, that's it for this first post. Enjoy.
